Ingevity Celebrates 10 Public Years and Sets Its Sights on Growth

Ingevity rang the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange to celebrate ten years as a public company, with shares up 2% on the day and 18% year to date. JD Durkin speaks with Dave Li, CEO and president of Ingevity, a specialty chemicals and materials company, about the company’s history, how its business has evolved, and where it is headed next.

Li says that while the company is marking a decade on the public markets, its roots go back to 1911, when its labs began studying activated carbon, a technology that remains at the heart of the business. He says what has not changed is the company’s culture, known as the Ingevity Way, along with its focus on safety, operational excellence, and customer support. What has changed over the past year, he explains, is that Ingevity has become a more focused specialty materials company, concentrating its portfolio on what it does best as it moves toward growth.

Li says Ingevity’s products show up in everyday life, from internal combustion engine and hybrid vehicles to water filtration and road additives that extend the life of roads and reduce pollution. He notes it is estimated that the company’s work in evaporative emissions saves about 8 million gallons of gasoline a day. Looking ahead, he says Ingevity will continue strengthening its culture and leadership while pursuing growth in filtration and energy storage and building on its core businesses in infrastructure and evaporative emissions.
