From Capitol Hill to the NYSE Floor: Vince Molinari’s Fight for Founders

There are roughly half as many public companies in the United States as there were 30 years ago, as companies stay private longer or skip the public markets altogether. On Startup to Stock Exchange, Kristin Myers turns the spotlight on the network itself, speaking with Vince Molinari, founder and CEO of FINTECH.TV, about his 15 years of advocacy on capital formation and digital assets, and the vision behind the show created in collaboration with the New York Stock Exchange.

Molinari, who testified before the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets in 2011, a year before the JOBS Act passed, says rising costs of going public and longer venture holding periods were slowing the cycle of capital that fuels job creation. He calls the JOBS Act very effective, pointing to the removal of the ban on general solicitation, equity crowdfunding, and expanded Reg A limits, and citing about $500 billion raised by private companies since its passage. He says companies are staying private longer because private valuations have expanded, alternative trading systems now offer liquidity, and IPOs increasingly serve as liquidity events. He also discusses the five rulemaking petitions he filed with the SEC between 2017 and 2021, saying five of the six petitions cited in the SEC’s crypto framework were drafted by his team, and that the SEC and CFTC are doing a fine job moving the space forward even without the CLARITY Act.

Molinari says the goal of the show is to build an ecosystem for private companies, giving founders a voice to share their journey from seed rounds to IPO and eventually bringing back tear sheets and creating a private company ticker. He says the show looks for dreamers who are disruptive and innovative, and that while luck plays a role, passion and commitment separate founders who make it. He adds that ringing the bell to take FINTECH.TV public could happen as soon as 2027.
