The S&P 500 Is Holding Up, but the Broader Market Is Starting to Weaken

Rising Treasury yields are putting increasing pressure on stocks, but the largest technology companies are helping keep the broader market from breaking lower. Eric Criscuolo, Market Strategist at the NYSE, joins JD Durkin to discuss the growing divide between mega cap stocks and the rest of the market as interest rates continue to climb.

Criscuolo says the S&P 500 has remained within its recent trading range even as yields have moved sharply higher, while the equal weight index and stocks outside the mega caps are beginning to weaken. He also explains how quarter end portfolio rebalancing could create shifts between equities and bonds as investors adjust their allocations.

The conversation also turns to Micron and the AI trade, along with the health of the consumer. Criscuolo says Micron will be closely watched for signals about AI demand while consumer spending has continued to support the economy despite a recent decline in confidence.
