Fintech Changed the Interface : AI Changes Everything Behind It

Ronit Ghose, Industry Chair for the Future of Finance and AI at the MENA Fintech Association and author of Future Money, joins Johny Fernandez from New York with a framework for understanding what AI actually means for finance, and why the last three to four years are genuinely different from the 70 years of AI that preceded them.

His distinction is sharp and quotable: fintech is simply finance for the mobile phone age, it changed the interface. AI changes both the front end and the back end. That is why it is truly revolutionary rather than just another wave of digitisation.

His forward-looking warning is the most important for investors and regulators: most of finance already happens machine to machine. What nobody has answered yet is what regulation looks like, what money looks like, and how humans stay involved in a world where the interactions are almost entirely between machines. That, he says, is the sci-fi future, and it is coming.
