How Blue J and Legora Are Bringing Tax AI Into Legal Workflows

Blue J and Legora are teaming up to make it easier for lawyers to research complex tax questions without leaving the platform where they do their work. JD Durkin speaks with Benjamin Alarie, co-founder and CEO of Blue J, and David Eckstein, CFO of Legora, about the partnership, the role of AI in tax research, and what comes next.

Alarie says tax questions come up constantly across legal matters, and that joint customers had been asking for the ability to combine Legora and Blue J, so the integration was a matter of listening to customers. Eckstein says Legora surveyed the tax research landscape and found Blue J to be the best of the best, adding that 140,000 legal professionals use Legora to answer complex questions. He explains that in a multi-step, multi-agent world, the companies are using an MCP protocol so Legora can tap into Blue J’s tax research on its infrastructure and deliver answers to lawyers inside the same platform.

On trust and accuracy, Alarie says trust and accountability are central to Blue J, noting that more than 6,500 firms rely on the platform and that it has answered more than 14 million tax technical questions to date. He says Blue J provides strong research answers along with supporting analysis and citations to source materials, giving tax professionals the authoritative support they need to apply their own judgment. Eckstein says the integration is going live today for a number of joint customers, with general availability planned for November.
