AI Stocks Struggle as the Rest of the Market Holds Up

The market is showing a split as the Dow moves higher and the S&P 500 recovers from earlier losses, while the Nasdaq remains under pressure from AI-related stocks and a hotter-than-expected wholesale inflation report. FINTECH.TV correspondent Mark Payton joins Remy Blaire live from the Cboe trading floor in Chicago to break down the session and what prediction market traders expect for the S&P 500’s close.

Payton says Nvidia, AMD, and Micron are among the names getting hit as investors question the large amount of money being spent on AI infrastructure and how quickly those investments will pay off. Wholesale prices jumped 1.3% in September, more than double what economists expected, and are up 6.3% from a year ago. At Cboe, he is watching whether the VIX stays elevated after jumping more than 10% yesterday, while the 10-year Treasury yield is down as investors buy government bonds.

On Polymarket, Payton says traders are betting on where SPY, the ETF that tracks the S&P 500, will close, pricing in about a 99% chance of a close above $760, around 95% above $765, and 60% above $770, but just 8% above $775. He notes that traders are showing more confidence in lower price levels and much less certainty about a stronger finish following the hot inflation data and continued pressure on technology stocks.
