The Twenty Five Bets on 180 MPH Seagliders to Transform Coastal Travel

The Twenty Five is betting that all-electric Seagliders can transform coastal transportation by cutting hours off trips to destinations like the Hamptons, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. Founders Jamie Petty and Neill Etheridge are building a luxury membership service around 12-seat vessels designed to travel just above the water at speeds of up to roughly 180 miles per hour.

Petty and Etheridge join Kristin Myers on Startup to Stock Exchange to explain how The Twenty Five plans to work with REGENT, which provides the Seaglider technology, and Hornblower, its marine operations partner. Following REGENT’s recent crewed Viceroy demonstration, Etheridge says the company is more confident in its expected delivery timeline, with the first vessels targeted for late 2027 or early 2028.

The founders also break down the economics behind the business. The Twenty Five is developing multiple membership tiers alongside one-off access, while its current business model assumes load factors of roughly 65% to 70%. The company holds a purchase agreement for up to 60 vessels, with deliveries expected to increase over a multiyear schedule.

Initial target markets include routes connecting New York with the Hamptons, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, followed by opportunities in Florida, the Bahamas, the West Coast and Europe. Looking further ahead, Petty says he would like to ring the bell for the New York focused business, though he estimates that possibility is probably four or five years away and would ultimately depend on market conditions.
