How a Hollywood Film Is Being Financed With Stablecoins

JD Durkin talks with Benjamin Peillard, founder and CEO of Cap, about how Cap is financing the new film Wake, starring Cole Sprouse, by advancing against its own production tax credits. Peillard says Cap believes the future of lending and financial markets is on stablecoins, and that the film industry is a natural place to start convincing businesses to come on chain.

Peillard says the biggest learning curve was convincing production studios to use stablecoins and self-host their own wallets, especially given the hacks the industry has seen. He says traditional DeFi lending requires borrowers to hold crypto like Bitcoin or ETH, while Cap lets companies keep their collateral, such as tax credits, off chain and simply receive stablecoins. He credits regulations such as the GENIUS Act with making companies comfortable holding them.

On risk, Peillard says every loan is backed by off-chain collateral and insured with a credit default swap, which Cap collateralizes with Bitcoin, ETH and other liquid assets, unlike the uncollateralized swaps of 2008. He says it has been proven in 2026 that companies and large institutions are comfortable on chain, and that finance coming onto the blockchain is just a matter of time. He adds that many companies worry about losing control if issuers tokenize their stock for them, and says Cap wants them to issue their own assets.
