How Tokenization Could Make US Markets Always On

US stock markets are moving toward nearly round-the-clock trading as international demand for American equities grows. At Money20/20, JD Durkin speaks with Naureen Hassan, CEO of DriveWealth, about global investor demand, the path to 24/7 trading, and how tokenization and stablecoin settlement could make US markets always on.

Hassan says investors around the world are jumping into US markets, driven largely by fractional shares that let anyone own a slice of companies like Google, Nvidia, and SpaceX, and that they want to trade during their own daylight hours. She notes DriveWealth has offered 24/5 trading for two years, with about 10% of its volume happening overnight as investors in Asia trade while they are awake, and says she expects 24/7 trading to arrive within a short time. She adds that fractional share trading has made investing accessible to people in regions across the globe, allowing them to buy as little as a dollar of Nvidia.

Hassan says infrastructure is the biggest barrier to 24/7 trading, and that tokenization, including DriveWealth’s participation in a pilot with the DTCC, can help create always-on markets with faster settlement. Because banking infrastructure is not open on weekends, DriveWealth has partnered with Ripple on stablecoin settlement to support truly tokenized trading where investors own the underlying share with continuous settlement. She also highlights a new deal with TrueMoney that gives 30 million Thai investors access to US equities, and says AI and agentic trading will be the next frontier, requiring real-time APIs and tokenized trading rather than batch infrastructure.
