Building Trust for a World of AI Agents

As AI agents increasingly shop, bank, and make transactions on behalf of consumers, financial institutions are rethinking how to verify and secure that activity. At Money20/20, JD Durkin speaks with Matt Thompson, CEO of Transmit Security, on his first day in the role, about the company’s Agent Trust platform and why digital identity is becoming more important than ever.

Thompson says his top priority is accelerating adoption of the Agent Trust platform and the offerings announced alongside his appointment, including training the team and educating customers about agent traffic and security needs. He explains that Transmit Security pioneered customer identity and access management orchestration for verifying humans across applications, but that the paradigm has changed as organizations now need to distinguish legitimate agents acting on behalf of people from human traffic and from harmful bot traffic.

Thompson says many leaders at financial institutions and fintechs are talking about blocking all agent traffic, which he does not see as sustainable. Agent Trust helps organizations identify good agents, understand what they have been authorized to do, assess their security risks, and ensure their actions match the user’s original intent, while keeping humans in the loop for higher-risk activity such as transactions above a set dollar threshold. Looking three to five years ahead, he says digital identity will be foundational to the entire ecosystem as the number of agents on the internet grows dramatically relative to humans.
