How Pie Is Helping Local Businesses Win New Customers

As consumers increasingly search for local businesses across Google, Yelp, and AI platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, getting discovered is becoming a bigger challenge for Main Street. On Startup to Stock Exchange, Kristin Myers speaks with Syed Ali, co-founder and CEO of Pie, an AI-powered growth platform that helps small businesses get found, answer customers, and turn that interest into sales.

Ali, who previously built products for small businesses at Square and Toast, says owners consistently told him they did not need another back-office tool but more customers in the door. Pie acts as an AI marketing manager, optimizing businesses across eight or nine surfaces by managing Google Business Profiles and Yelp profiles, which he says are the biggest inputs for AI recommendations, responding to reviews, and building AI websites designed for crawlers. The platform tests channels during a customer’s first 10 to 15 days, reviews performance daily, and makes adjustments as often as every hour, using point-of-sale and CRM data to highlight what each business does best.

Pie also offers an AI voice agent that Ali says answers about 90% of calls, escalating complex requests and supporting both Mandarin and English. He says the agent answers about 100 calls a day for a Supercuts location, saving around four hours of talk time, and that Supercuts has seen sales rise 10% to 15% a month. Pie has reached roughly 2,000 small business customers and driven more than 140,000 calls, tracks new and returning customers through CRM integrations, and is priced at under $100 a month. Ali adds that more than 1,000 businesses joined through word of mouth and that Pie works closely with channels like Google by bringing more small businesses into the marketing ecosystem.
