Joining me now is Steve Blanco. Steve is president and CEO of MSA safety. Just riding the closing bell with us down here at the Big Board. Nice to see you.
Nice to see you. Thank you.
Talk to me all about what brings you and the team down here to ring the bell? As tomorrow, of course, we commemorate. We honor. We remember 25 years since September 11th.
Well, and that's exactly why. So MSA, our mission is safety. It's been safety for our 112 year history. And we were integral to trying to protect people. And when nine over 11 happened, the CEO at the time took every piece of product we had from our warehouses in Pennsylvania, put them on trucks, and sent them straight up to New York to help and protect the first responders, give them the equipment and those that are trying to do the rescues, everything they needed.
So his view was that no matter what happens, if we get paid or not, we have to protect the Americans and make sure we're there to help with the recovery and the rescue efforts. And then we had a team descend down here at that same period of time. So that's part of our mission. Our mission is safety. Our mission is protecting people.
So this is a very emotional time for us because it's a connection to New York, and it's a connection to America and the history we have together?
Yeah. Of course. And obviously, a deeply important anniversary for all of us here at the New York Stock Exchange community, new Yorkers, Americans everywhere. What are the biggest difficulties of protecting the people who protect us? What does that look like in terms of your own core mission?
Well, for us, it's what we do every day, and we do that through innovation and technology, trying to solve the problems that our customers have. So when our customers in and of high challenge that they have, we come back and come up with a solution to help them. So they have a solution and can do the work they do to protect you and I.
They're the heroes that go in, in each and every day, and we want to make sure they're protected in the industrial space. It's similar. Right? They do those jobs that sometimes we take for granted, but they're in hazardous situations and our products and solutions help protect them in those situations.
What are some more recent innovations in the general world, or conversation of safety technology that you're most excited about? Right now.
I think the things that we're excited about going forward and where we're at today is instrumentation and the technology on how we're able to detect different toxic and explosive gases so much more quickly, and how we're able to provide situational awareness to a fire scene or a situation, an industrial scene where people at a remote location can actually access and understand what's the data telling them on site to protect those people that are doing the work.
So even if they're not there, they're able to access that information and perhaps evacuate them or provide them additional resources to support them to make sure they're able to get out safely.
And just in terms of the business, you have to contend with, headwinds, I'd imagine are no easy task. Things like tariffs, geopolitical uncertainty. How do you have to approach those challenges as part of your business?
Well, for us, we're very resilient business very diversified. It's all safety. The beauty of safety is it doesn't go out of favor. And whether it's a strong economic situation or it's not a strong economic situation, people recognize the value of safety and the needs for safety. So we'll manage those situations.
They don't necessarily make it more fun and makes the business more challenging. But I think the diversification of our business and the fact that we have a global reach really helps us in that regard.
Thank you for joining us, especially ahead of tomorrow's incredibly important anniversary. Really grateful for your time, Steve. Thank you.
Honored to be here. Thank you.
