you Welcome back, everyone, to Taking Stock. All right, well, we've got a really big guest on tap. I'm pleased to be joined by Brett Feldman, Senior Vice President of Investor Relations and Treasurer at AT&T. And of course, 125 years that AT&T has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange, an incredible milestone. Brett joins us from our brand new NYSE Texas office. just opened last week. And Brett, when you look back on 125 years on the NYSC, what about this moment best captures AT&T's ability to evolve?
Well, first of all, we are so proud to be one of the longest listed companies on the New York Stock Exchange. And of course, that's only possible because of how long we've been around as a company. I think this moment in time is a fantastic example of just how well AT&T is able to evolve. Today, we already have the largest and fastest growing fiber internet network in the country. We already have a wireless network that covers more terrestrial geography than any of our peers, and we're continuing to invest in it. And we have formed a joint venture to ensure that our network here on Earth seamlessly connects with satellite networks up in outer space. But what's really remarkable is that while we're making all this investment in evolving our network, we're also finally retiring our legacy copper telephone network. And I think one of the things that that highlights is just how durable our infrastructure has been. Some of these copper telephone lines that we are taking out of service today have been in use for over 100 years. I'm going to predict that some of the fiber lines that we're deploying today are going to be in use for 100 years as well.
You recently shared a blog on the 125th anniversary, noting that access to capital helped AT&T build a nationwide communications network more than a century ago. How does that same investment mindset show up in your strategy today?
Yeah, I mean, we have what we tell investors is an investment led strategy. We are investing at the top of our industry in fiber and 5G. We're building the networks today that our customers are going to need a decade from now in order to remain connected in an economy that's increasingly driven by AI. So it has always been our ethos to build great networks, to invest, not to cut corners. And candidly, I'm not sure that's what all of our competitors are doing. Some of our peers are talking about how they're bringing investment down. This is an era where if you are in digital infrastructure and part of the digital economy, you have to be investing at the front of your industry, and that's the exact ethos that we carry through with us today.
AT&T has connected Americans for generations. How are fiber and 5G shaping this next chapter of that story?
Well, it's not just about fiber and 5G. It's about fiber and 5G together. As consumers increasingly rely on advanced connectivity and have more complicated lives and more important things that they're doing with their connections, they have been telling us that they want to rely on one competitor. They don't want to have to go to someone to be connected when they're home. someone else to be connected when they're away, and they want to really have a trusted provider. And so that's why at AT&T, we're building our fiber at scale, we're building our 5G at scale, so you can rely on AT&T for all of your connectivity, whether it's for your family or whether it's for your business. And we're the only company in our industry doing that today with a guarantee, something we're really proud of.
Our relationship has evolved over the years. We just celebrated one year of AT&T being dual listed on NYSE Texas. What does that milestone mean in the context of this bigger one?
Well, we start off by talking about how we are one of the longest listed companies on the New York Stock Exchange. But we can say for certain that we are the longest listed company on NYSE Texas, along with all of the other Texas based companies that were part of our inaugural class listing a year ago. It was such a great event. We did it at AT&T Stadium. I can't imagine a better place where we could have celebrated that. And it just shows our commitment to the NYC and our commitment to the home state of Texas. And we're certainly looking forward to a long time being listed on NYC Texas as well.
Brett Feldman, Senior Vice President of Investor Relations and Treasure at AT&T. Brett, thank you so much.
