What Happens to Fund Prices When Egypt’s Stock Exchange Stops Trading

Dr. Reem Essam Bedeir, Assistant Professor of Accounting at the Sidhu School of Business at Wilkes University, joins Bassel Sabri as Egypt’s investment funds cross half a trillion pounds, with eight in ten units belonging to individual savers, on the same day a broad selloff forced the exchange to halt trading for half an hour.

Her most important point is on what fund value actually means when a stock is not trading: it does not mean there is no price. The risk is not the technology. The risk is whether the fund itself holds enough liquid assets to meet redemptions at a good price.
