Upwind Is Building Security for the Cloud and AI Era

AI is making attackers more sophisticated and expanding the attack surface for every enterprise, putting cloud and AI security at the center of the cybersecurity conversation. On Taking Stock, JD Durkin speaks with Amiram Shachar, co-founder and CEO of Upwind, a cloud and AI security platform, about the risks that come with AI, the company’s latest raise, and how security needs to evolve as AI spreads everywhere.

Shachar says Upwind helps enterprises secure their cloud infrastructure and AI applications end to end, first by helping them understand the risk in their environment and then by letting them see and stop attacks live, in real time. He says everyone is becoming a sophisticated attacker with AI, while every employee is becoming a developer, making the attack surface much greater than before. Upwind just raised an additional $400 million in a Series C, following a $250 million Series B about seven months ago, which he says leaves the company well capitalized to help defenders in the cloud and AI era.

Shachar says that in the last month there have been more attacks generated by AI than in the last four years combined, and that customers see cybersecurity and AI as the most important intersection today. He says Upwind is taking a platform approach, bringing together capabilities customers might have found in different tools, with ease of use as a top priority. Looking ahead, he says AI now lives everywhere, from endpoints and laptops to SaaS providers and the cloud, and that the next three years will be about securing AI everywhere it lives. He adds that AI is going to bring amazing benefits to the world, predicting that diseases will disappear very soon.
