dYdX Has $1.5 Trillion in Cumulative Trading Volume, and It Is Just Getting Started

Charles d’Haussy, CEO of the dYdX Foundation, joins Lucy Gazmararian at the ADX as one of crypto’s largest DeFi derivatives protocols, with $1.5 trillion in cumulative trading volume since 2021, extends its market offering beyond crypto assets into tokenised real world assets, including S&P 500 indices and individual securities like Tesla and SpaceX.

His most important point is on what DeFi actually brings to traditional market trading: 24-hour access, 365 days a year. You can now trade commodities and securities over the weekend. That is a genuine structural advantage that traditional markets cannot yet replicate, and it comes directly from building on blockchain infrastructure.

On the convergence of AI and crypto, his read is the most practically grounded available: the same questions of trust and identity that plagued early crypto are now emerging around AI. Who trained the model, where does the data come from, can you trust the output? Cryptography and blockchain are uniquely positioned to provide that trust layer for AI, and that convergence represents a new wave of opportunity for both industries.
