Beyond Crypto: How Stablecoins Are Transforming Global Payments and Treasury Management

Stablecoins took center stage at Money20/20 USA 2026 in Las Vegas as financial institutions, global businesses and payment providers explored how digital currencies were becoming part of everyday financial operations. Remy Blaire spoke with Rowland Berry, Vice President of Stablecoin at Payoneer, about the accelerating adoption of stablecoins, the evolution of enterprise payment infrastructure and the challenges businesses faced when integrating blockchain technology into existing financial systems.

Drawing on Payoneer’s Stablecoin Steps Up research, Berry highlighted how 69% of surveyed organizations were already using stablecoins in their operations, while 82% expected the technology to become part of their core financial infrastructure within three years. The findings demonstrated a shift from experimentation and pilot programs toward practical implementation, with enterprises increasingly focused on scaling stablecoin payments and demonstrating measurable business value.

The conversation explored how cross-border payments, foreign exchange efficiency and treasury management were driving demand for stablecoin infrastructure. Berry explained how businesses were using digital currencies to improve international settlement, manage liquidity across markets and reduce friction in traditional payment processes. He also discussed why companies with complex financial operations were particularly interested in using stablecoins behind the scenes while maintaining familiar payment experiences for customers.

Despite growing adoption, Berry emphasized that operational reliability remained a significant challenge. From regulatory compliance and interoperability to payment returns, chargebacks and reconciliation, enterprises needed infrastructure capable of handling more than successful transactions. He explained why clear accountability, dependable APIs and effective exception management were essential for building trust in stablecoin payment systems.

The discussion also examined the growing importance of integrating traditional fiat currencies and blockchain infrastructure into unified financial workflows. Berry highlighted why businesses were seeking payment platforms that could support both conventional financial services and digital assets without introducing unnecessary operational complexity. As adoption expanded, the ability to connect these systems reliably became increasingly important.

Looking beyond cross-border payments, Berry identified programmable transactions and advanced treasury capabilities as promising areas for future stablecoin development. He discussed how greater automation and interoperability could allow businesses to manage payments, international settlements and liquidity through increasingly connected financial platforms.

As Money20/20 USA 2026 showcased the growing maturity of digital payment technologies, Berry shared why the next phase of stablecoin adoption would depend on reliability, practical business applications and seamless integration with existing financial infrastructure. His insights highlighted a future in which stablecoins could become an invisible but essential component of how businesses move and manage money globally.
