Why Banks Are Embracing Stablecoins Ahead of 2027

Stablecoins are moving beyond crypto trading and becoming an increasingly important part of traditional financial infrastructure. Michael Shaulov, CEO and co founder of Fireblocks, joins Remy Blaire at the New York Stock Exchange to discuss how banks, fintechs and payment companies are adopting digital assets to transform global payments and financial services.

Shaulov explains that stablecoin adoption is accelerating, particularly in cross border payments, where transaction volumes are growing by an estimated 15% to 20% per quarter. From remittances to business to business transactions, stablecoins are helping companies move money between the United States, Europe and emerging markets across Latin America and Southeast Asia.

Looking ahead to 2027, Shaulov expects banks to play a larger role as they build the infrastructure needed to bring stablecoin services to more customers. He also discusses the benefits of faster settlement, round the clock transactions and programmable money, which could reshape capital markets, trade finance and collateral management.

The conversation explores how tokenized money could expand access to financial products, support global investment and enable new forms of automated payments. Shaulov also highlights the growing role of AI agents, explaining why stablecoins could become a preferred payment method for autonomous digital systems.

As digital assets become more integrated into traditional finance, security and regulation remain critical challenges. Shaulov discusses cryptographic identity, fraud prevention and cybersecurity, including the growing use of AI by cybercriminals and the need for stronger safeguards across crypto and decentralized finance.
