Shorooq Just Launched the Region’s First Pre-IPO Fund : Here Is Why the Gulf Needed It

Shane Shin, Co-Founding Partner at Shorooq, joins Karl Naim at the ADX as the firm, after eight years focused on early-stage investing, launches what he calls the region’s first dedicated late-stage growth and pre-IPO fund, designed to close the gap that has always existed between promising companies and a public listing.

His diagnosis of the missing piece in the Gulf’s venture ecosystem is precise: there are gaps at every stage, but the pre-IPO gap is the most consequential. Companies like Tamara are mature and ready, but without a vehicle specifically designed to take them to public markets or through an M&A process, they stall. The Catalyst Fund is built to close that gap.

On what foreign allocators still get wrong about MENA, his answer is the clearest available: 99% of people globally have not visited Abu Dhabi. Perception is the problem. Seeing is believing, and the ease of doing business, the quality of the ecosystem, and the depth of the opportunity only become real when you are on the ground.
