How Founders Can Make Their Stories Land

Joe Benarroch, head of media partnerships, content and distribution at the New York Stock Exchange, returns to Startup to Stock Exchange to deliver a masterclass on how founders can make their stories land. Kristin Myers speaks with Benarroch about the NYSE’s work with the startup community, its media partnerships, and the narratives that resonate most with audiences.

Benarroch says the NYSE is taking 11 Wall into the marketplace through events like TechCrunch Disrupt, Bloomberg Invest, and Money20/20, where it partners with FINTECH.TV, Cheddar, and Stocktwits on the Taking Stock content series launched at Money20/20 Europe in 2025. He explains that while the NYSE has about 2,500 listed companies with more than $70 trillion in aggregate market cap, tens of thousands of private companies are hitting milestones that matter to public companies and the broader economy, and the exchange’s capital markets team works with them at every stage.

His advice to founders is to start early, tell a consistent story, and treat every milestone as an opportunity, from product developments and partnerships to culture and how the company is built, not just funding. He says the stories that stick most often include the founder’s personal aha moment, industry disruption, the creation of new industries, and the build and scale journey backed by results. He encourages founders to develop a bench of storytellers across their company, bring partners along as advocates, stay in regular contact with the media, and open up their playbooks. Looking ahead, he highlights the NYSE’s third Partnership Day on February 10th, where the exchange will outline new ways for media partners to work with it.
