Corporate Profits, Jobs and the Fed’s Next Move

U.S. corporations are wrapping up a strong earnings season, with corporate profits rising more than 20% year over year. Bill Adams, Chief U.S. Economist at Fifth Third Commercial Bank, joins Remy Blaire from Dallas to discuss the strength of the corporate sector, sticky inflation and what the latest economic data means for businesses and investors.

Attention now turns to Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh and his highly anticipated Jackson Hole speech. Adams expects Warsh to focus on the Fed’s long term strategy, including reducing its footprint in the financial system and shrinking its balance sheet, while offering limited guidance on the path for interest rates.

The conversation also explores the changing U.S. labor market and the so called K shaped economy, as well as business investment across Dallas Fort Worth. Despite a slowdown in job postings and housing activity, Adams believes the region’s strong economic fundamentals could support renewed growth over the next 12 months.
