AI’s Biggest Bottleneck May Be Power, Not Chips

The AI boom is running into a major infrastructure challenge as power availability, grid constraints and permitting timelines increasingly limit data center expansion. With hyperscalers competing for massive amounts of electricity, the industry is also facing a growing problem of underutilized GPU capacity across existing data centers and consumer devices.

Greg Osuri, CEO of Overclock Labs and Founder of Akash Network, joins Remy Blaire to discuss the AI energy crisis and why the traditional centralized data center model may face increasing pressure. Osuri explains how limited access to utility scale power is pushing the industry to consider a different approach, including moving compute closer to available energy and expanding distributed and edge data centers.

The conversation also explores how idle GPUs could be put to work for AI inference at potentially lower costs. Osuri explains how Akash Network is connecting smaller sources of computing capacity with users while working toward more transparent and predictable pricing for compute as the market evolves from spot markets toward forward and futures markets.
