Multicoin Capital Made HyperLiquid Its Largest Holding: Here Is the Thesis

Spencer Applebaum, General Partner and Co-Head of Venture at Multicoin Capital, joins Johny Fernandez as the $2.7 billion fund makes HyperLiquid its largest hedge fund holding, and explains why the market is still pricing it as a crypto-only exchange when it is becoming something much larger.

His most important observation is on what happened during the Iran oil conflict: people started trading oil exposure on HyperLiquid on the weekend when no other markets were available. And during the Cerebus IPO, traders on the Nasdaq floor were looking at HyperLiquid’s pre-IPO derivatives to figure out where the market would open. That is not a crypto exchange, that is a 24/7 global exchange for every asset class.

On how Multicoin bought in, his point is the most important for retail investors: no sweetheart deal. The same access anyone sitting at home with a laptop has. No discount from a foundation, no private deal. That democratisation extends to who can own the token.
