MCO Just Raised $100 Million and AI Is Going Into the Hardest Parts of Compliance

Brian Fahey, CEO of MCO (MyComplianceOffice), joins Johny Fernandez as the compliance technology platform, 18 years old, spun out of Fidelity Investments’ offshore development group in Ireland, closes more than $100 million in growth financing from SL KKR to complete its product set and integrate AI across the platform.

His most important distinction is on where AI in compliance actually works versus where it creates new risks. In unstructured data, emails, voice messages, instant messages, social media, AI and LLM-based analysis is genuinely powerful and changes the face of electronic communications surveillance. In structured transactional data, trades, money movements, holdings, the probabilistic nature of AI creates a problem: compliance requires auditability, logging, and the same answer every time.

On the digital assets and prediction markets compliance challenge, his diagnosis is clear: the principles are the same as for any securities transaction, information asymmetry and market manipulation. The concern is that inside information can now be used in prediction markets by people who would never trade the underlying security. That is exactly where monitoring needs to extend next.
