Retail Investors, Social Media and the Search for Market Opportunities

Retail investors are continuing to look for new opportunities as markets trade near record highs and social media becomes an increasingly important source of market information. Jack Newhouse, Partner and Wealth Advisor at Rothschild Wealth Partners, joins Remy Blaire from Stocktoberfest in New York City to discuss retail trading, market volatility and where investors are finding an edge.

Newhouse says the stock market currently appears less volatile than headlines might suggest, with the VIX relatively low despite movements across rates, commodities and other asset classes. He highlights elevated mortgage rates as a key concern, while also discussing how social media has transformed retail investing and the growing challenge of distinguishing genuine investor conversations from bots and manipulated activity.

The conversation also explores Rothschild Wealth Partners’ plans to expand its use of artificial intelligence, with Newhouse discussing efforts to automate back office functions and allow advisors to spend more time working directly with clients. He also explains why smaller retail investors can sometimes move faster than larger institutions and take advantage of opportunities that may be less accessible to larger pools of capital.

Newhouse also shares his perspective on crypto and alternative investments, arguing that while the explosive returns seen in crypto’s early years may be harder to replicate, opportunities remain across digital assets and alternative investments. Looking ahead to 2027, he discusses balancing higher growth opportunities in names such as Nvidia, Anthropic and OpenAI with investments designed to provide attractive returns in flat or declining markets.
