Tabadul Has Grown From 3 to 11 Exchanges: Iraq Just Went Live and Egypt Is Next

Saker Asllan, Chief Exchange Operations Officer at the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, joins Lucy Gazmararian at the Arab Federation of Capital Markets conference in Abu Dhabi as Tabadul, the cross-exchange trading network ADX built, marks a major milestone: Iraq’s stock exchange went live on day one of the conference, and MoUs were signed with both the Egyptian Stock Exchange and Damascus Stock Exchange on the same day.

His explanation of how Tabadul actually works cuts through the complexity: an investor sitting in Abu Dhabi can access Bahrain, Muscat, Astana, or Baku through their local broker without opening new accounts in those countries, paying in local currency. It is a network, not a link, and the key to its fast growth is that no exchange is asked to change its own rules or systems.

On what started as a retail product, his account of the evolution is precise: from three GCC exchanges to institutional investors, market makers, and algo traders providing liquidity across all connected markets. Eight of the eleven exchanges are now live and actively trading every day.
