Coinbase Pushes Into IPOs, Tokenized Stocks and Stablecoin Payments

Coinbase is expanding beyond crypto as it pushes deeper into IPO access, tokenized stocks and stablecoin payments. Brett Tejpaul, Co CEO of Coinbase Institutional, joins JD Durkin to discuss how the company is bringing traditional financial products onto its platform and what the growing convergence between crypto and traditional finance could mean for investors.

Tejpaul discusses Coinbase’s entry into the U.S. IPO market and its effort to give retail investors greater access to new offerings. He also explains how Coinbase is approaching tokenized stocks, with U.S. shares held by a custodian and tokens designed to represent ownership of the underlying stock along with shareholder rights.

Looking ahead, Tejpaul describes tokenized stocks as the next major step in bringing traditional finance and crypto together following the rise of crypto ETFs. He also points to stablecoin payments as another area of expansion, saying seven of the world’s 20 largest banks have signed up to use Coinbase infrastructure.
