The Future Bad Guys Do Not Break Into the Bank : They Log On

Ronit Ghose, Co-Chair of the Future of Finance and AI Working Group at the MENA Fintech Association, joins Raghda Ibraheem at Money 20/20 Riyadh for his third consecutive year at the event, and his cybersecurity warning is the sharpest of the week.

His most quotable line from a panel the day before: the future bad guys, even the current bad guys, do not break into the bank physically. They log on. That is a fundamentally different risk profile. And AI is making the bad guys smarter, faster, and harder to catch. The real coming challenge is quantum computing, in approximately five to six years, all current digital data security will be compromised. Banks and fintechs need to start working on it now, not then.

On what AI use case in finance is still most underrated, his answer is the most personal and most broadly relatable: AI as an individual empowerment tool. He does so much work in his personal life using AI that he would previously have outsourced to other people. Small companies gain ground on big ones. Plucky startups narrow the gap with incumbent banks. That levelling dynamic is being underestimated.
