Rowan’s Nurse Led Piercing Model Targets 10X U.S. Expansion

Rowan is scaling a nurse led piercing model that Founder and CEO Louisa Schneider says could support 10 times the company’s current number of U.S. locations. With more than 120 locations today, Schneider says the company still sees significant room for domestic and international expansion.

Schneider joins Kristin Myers on Startup to Stock Exchange to explain how her background in finance helped shape Rowan. The company was founded around the idea that piercing should be treated as a medical service, with piercings performed by licensed practical nurses or registered nurses. Schneider also discusses Rowan’s approach to labor costs, investing in its nurses and using data and disciplined capital allocation as the business scales.

The conversation also explores Rowan’s jewelry business and its exposure to precious metal prices. Schneider says titanium used for fresh piercings has limited some of the impact from higher gold prices, while Rowan has seen demand for both lower cost alternatives and higher end products. The company is preparing its first Palm Beach market store with a bespoke collection featuring diamonds, jewels and 14-karat gold and above.

Asked about Rowan’s path toward the public markets, Schneider says the company remains focused on expansion. She says reaching the opening bell “could be sooner than later,” while emphasizing that Rowan still has considerable growth ahead.
