Wall Street Starts September With Caution: Oil, Yields & Tech Earnings

Wall Street is kicking off September on a cautious note, with traders in Chicago watching higher oil prices, rising Treasury yields and increased market volatility. S&P 500 futures are pointing to a weaker open, while the VIX and Russell 2000 futures are also moving higher as investors assess the risks heading into the new month.

FinTech TV correspondent Mark Payton joins in from the CBOE trading floor in Chicago to break down the pre market action and what traders are watching. With oil prices up more than 2% and the 10 year Treasury yield near 4.8%, market participants are keeping a close eye on whether rising costs and borrowing rates could put further pressure on stocks.

Attention will also turn to the earnings calendar after the closing bell, with Dell, Palo Alto Networks and MongoDB reporting results. Mark explains why the three companies could offer important insights into corporate technology spending, from AI infrastructure and server demand at Dell to cybersecurity spending at Palo Alto Networks and data and software demand at MongoDB.
