How Crypto.com Just Made Dubai the World’s Most Crypto-Friendly City

Mohammed Al Hakim, President and General Manager for UAE and Bahrain at Crypto.com, joins Raghda Ibraheem following a landmark week, Emirates Airlines and Dubai Duty Free both live with crypto payments, with Dubai government fees the next milestone.

The detail most people are missing is how it actually works. Emirates is not holding Bitcoin. Crypto.com sits as the intermediary, converts the customer’s digital asset into AED at the point of transaction, and settles directly with the merchant in dirhams. Zero crypto risk for the merchant. Pure fiat settlement. That is what the Central Bank of UAE’s Stored Value Facility license, the first ever granted to a crypto company in the UAE, made possible.

On the government integration, the technical work is already done. Residents will soon be able to pay RTA fines, land transactions, Dubai Police fines, car renewals, and more through Crypto.com Pay, all settling in AED with the Dubai government. The only thing remaining is the green light.
