Who Is Actually Winning the AI Race in Financial Services

Conor Twomey, CEO and Co-Founder of AI One, joins Johny Fernandez at the NYSE to cut through the growing noise around AI adoption in financial services, and his benchmark is straightforward: the results must show up in the financial profile.

Firms that are genuinely leveraging AI are not defined by the number of pilots they announce. They are defined by measurable top-line growth, accelerated product development, and a simultaneous reduction in operating costs, what Twomey describes as a jaws effect. Organisations that cannot demonstrate this are, in his assessment, still generating noise.

On investment priorities, he identifies a distinct divide between US East Coast institutions, focused on near-term efficiency gains, and West Coast firms building infrastructure for the financial landscape of tomorrow. The Middle East, he notes, mirrors the East Coast tendency toward centralised decision-making, which can slow both speed of deployment and the pace of experimentation.

His closing point is perhaps the most important: the objective is not to have AI perform the work, but to use AI as a source of operational leverage, enabling organisations to do significantly more with the resources they already have.
